Danny Capua – Class of 2015
Lent is a period of time to prepare for Easter Sunday. In my family, it has always been a sacred time to reflect on our Catholic faith and become closer with God. In the next six weeks, I hope to make this Lent special by following its principles and creating a better relationship with my family and of course with God. I will give up something very valuable to me and fast.
I will give up my phone for Lent because I spend the most time on it. It is distracting and I use it purely for entertainment and communication. I feel as though it is separating me from God. Instead of praying every night, I use my phone. Instead of going to church or seeking repentance, I sit on my phone and play games. Especially since I am a peer minister now, unlike in my youth, I must give up my phone for a short period of time to be able to hear God’s wisdom more clearly. Also, when I was younger, I did not even try to give up anything for Lent because I believed it was foolish and silly. So to make this Lent special, I will give up my smartphone. This will make me appreciate what I have.
Michael Schalasky – Class of 2015
This lent just like every lent I try my best to go out of my way to support and help others. Even though people say it is right to give up something, but why don’t people have a thing they will give up and also approve on. This year I will be giving up fast food, any tobacco products, and like I said I will be doing the best I can to go and help others.
What I will do this lent to make it important/special is staying true to my word on what I am going to give up. I think this is special because many people will appreciate what I am trying to get done during this lent. What also will make this season important is the fact I will try to be around my family as much as possible. THe lent season is meant to spend your time with family and friends.
In the end, what I will do this lent season will not be important unless I take it with me for the rest of my life. So what I specifically will do for this lent season is to carry on everything I give up. I will carry on my love for others and take everything I learn to my everyday life.
Pat Broderick – Class of 2015
I plan to make this lent special this year by trying hard to give up my bad habits. By giving something up one is able to focus more on God and not on material things. It is also important to remember that Jesus made many sacrifices for us so we need to sacrifice things for him. I plan on giving up meat on Fridays and giving up pop. I believe I drink too much pop even though I know it is bad for me. I believe lent is a good time to break bad habits and strengthen your relationship with God.
This lent I will do nice things for other people that I usually do not do. Lent is a time to be a better person. I plan to help out my family, friends, and coworkers more during lent. Also, I plan on giving more money to the church and to charities. It is also important to pray more and go to church every Sunday during this important season in the Roman Catholic Church. Lent is a time for people to strengthen their relationship with God and become a better person. I look forward to the opportunities lent will bring in the future.
